Proudly manufactured in the USA, our versatile and configurable bags are designed to liberate adventurers from unnecessary weight while also championing innovative design and highest quality performance materials.
We don’t just create bags – we design intelligent gear solutions.
Our Story
Our Team
Ursula Gilliam
I grew up in Thailand and spent much of my childhood outdoors with my family. My father, an avid scuba diver, cyclist, mountaineer, and all-around outdoor enthusiast, inspired my love for adventure by taking us on incredible journeys around the world. After moving back to the United States, I discovered a passion for sewing—starting with fashion clothing for my mother and later creating custom cycle wear for my dad, among other projects.
Over the years, I earned a private pilot license, an FAA parachute rigger certificate, a USPA skydiving D-license, and a NAUI scuba certification. With a degree in Business Administration from UC Riverside, I launched my first business manufacturing skydiving jumpsuits and accessories. During this time, I also worked at Butler Parachutes, where I helped craft emergency pilot packs and prototype parachutes for the U.S. Navy—an exhilarating experience!
Eventually, I transitioned into teaching high school math after earning a teaching credential from CSU Fresno. However, when my youngest child graduated high school, I returned to my true passion: designing innovative products. Drawing on my diverse experiences in math, performance textiles, and adventure sports, I founded Gear Perspective. It has been thrilling to channel my lifelong love for the outdoors and creativity into crafting gear that elevates the adventures of outdoor enthusiasts worldwide.
Gear Perspective represents not just a business but a culmination of my journey, blending passion, skill, and innovation to redefine outdoor experiences. Let’s explore the world together—one adventure at a time!

I’ve been an avid adventurer all my life, exploring woods, bayous, and storm sewers as a kid in Houston, Texas. When I moved to Indiana, I got seriously into cycling, caving, rock climbing and soon after, mountaineering. When I moved to California around 2000, I enjoyed easy access to big mountains, world class rock climbs, and canyons, which were new to me at that time. I did a few canyons here and there, but in March 2017 I got into canyoneering in a major way and found that SoCal has so many fun canyons. As well, I spent time in Zion and California Sierra canyons that were on my tick list. And some 1000 canyon runs later, I’m still loving it, even more!
Back up a couple of years, when Ursula asked me to help with development and testing of canyon rope bags and packs, I was more than happy to put her prototypes through the ringer. Together we worked out the details, fixed things that wore out too quickly, and made improvements here and there. The results speak for themselves as Gear Perspective stuff is super light, super functions and super durable. I’m certainly a happy camper now!

A lifelong passion for the outdoors and wild spaces has moved my life around the world. Southern Utah has been my home base for the last ten years. I have received training and certifications from the American Canyoneering Association and Canyon Guides International, I have Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder and Swift Water Rescue certifications. I’m currently a professional canyoneering guide and instructor based in Hurricane UT.
In 2022 I started a design and testing collaboration with Gear Perspective, a gear company with very progressive ideas and commitment to innovation. I have been able to contribute ideas for rope bags, backpack and harness protectors and field test them as well.
